A growing body of work that digs into the belly of the earth in search of the minerals in the muck and glistening fangs in the dark. It considers the Jungian dimension of myths about the underworld as parables of the unconscious. The drawings owe themselves to medieval treatises and contemporary children’s cartoons alike, attempting to pull a thread through the layers of history.

Jad Dahshan is an artist based in Amman. He started out working with beakers and Bunsen burners in the laboratory before joining a student-led circus troupe and then finally settling in art history. He participated in the 2024 mmag Artist in Residence program which allowed him to develop the visual lexicon currently precipitating in the work on display.
